Fels Naptha

I recently stopped in at Rural King to pick up some carpet spotter, but they didn't have any. As I looked around, I came across a bar of Fels Naptha soap, and decided to try a bar. I used it with the Wonder Glove on a few carpet spots, and was really surprised with the results. The carpet looked good..I mean real good!!What a great deal to stumble upon! I would much rather pay $1.50 - $3.00 for a bar of soap, than $5.00 - $10.00 on spot cleaner, especially when it does such a great job.

Fels Naptha..an old product that still does it's job!

Healthy Cleaning

Recently on LinkedIn, under the group Business Services, I started a discussion. "Do you think being in the cleaning business has affected your health, especially your respiratory system?" I got 26 comments. Most people said yes, and most included their respiratory systems. I spent over 30 years in the commercial cleaning business, and I now have COPD. Back in my early days of cleaning, there were no "green" cleaning products. The harsher the chemical, the better it cleaned! I used lots of bleach, and ammonia. NEVER mixed together, but they were both used a lot. Sure they did a good job, but years later I began to pay the price with my health! Several, or should I say most of the cleaning products out there today have insecticides in them, even those cute little "scrubbing bubbles"! Luckily, today there are also several green cleaning products available. USE the green products, and wear a mask as much as possible when cleaning!! Trust me, 30 years from now your lungs will thank you!!

Walmart's Get On The Shelf

We got some really good news yesterday!! Two of our products, Wonder Glove and Safe-2-Scrub have made it past the first stage of Walmart's Get On The Shelf contest! These products are now moving on to the Audition Round, where online voting will help show the judges how much public support our products have. The voting began yesterday. We are trying to post a little something on Facebook and other social sites every day or so, but don't want to burn out our friends with our posts, so we figured we would also put the news out in our Blog. It would be greatly appreciated if all who read this would take a few minutes (seconds, really) to go to the links below and vote for Wonder Glove and Safe-2-Scrub! Voting can be done daily, and we know it's alot to ask folks to vote every day, but we sure would like for you to! How cool would it be to win this contest, and see at least one of our products on Walmart's shelves?? Well...for us here at Unique Cleaning Products, it will be WAY COOL!!! https://getontheshelf.walmart.com/product/130f/Wonder-Glove https://getontheshelf.walmart.com/product/1621/Safe-2-Scrub

Spring Is Here!!

Garage sale signs & dandelions...Spring is here!!!  Time to spring clean! I always open all the windows to let all that fresh spring air in the house first. Even if it is time to clean, there is nothing like getting to open your house up and turn the heat off after a long cold winter.

Now on to the business of spring cleaning... The Wonder Glove can help in all the cleaning jobs you may need to tackle. For your upholstered furniture, just spray it down with carpet or upholstery cleaner, get your Wonder Glove damp and wipe over the upholstery, wring out your Wonder Glove and go over again. (It works great on cleaning all the winter elements off your car too, not to mention the interior, as well!)

When cleaning walls and other vertical surfaces, always start at the bottom and work your way up. The Wonder Glove will work wonders on your kitchen and bathroom walls. Just put on a some good music and get started, and it won't take long at all!

Anti -bullying movement

As we are in an anti-bullying movement, after catching just a small portion of Judge Judy this week, it is my opinion that she is a bully. She really talks down to the people in her courtroom. We are all human, and deserve to be talked to as such. Again, that is just my opinion, what are your thoughts?

Super Cleaning!

I haven't been downtown yet! The Super Bowl is coming to my hometown of Indianapolis this year, and everyone is hustling to get their business in order and looking great for all the out of towners Indianapolis and the surrounding communities will be hosting.

One of my long time clients in my cleaning business is WCLJ Channel 42 in Greenwood, IN. Channel 42 is owned and operated by Trinity Broadcasting Network out of California. They have stations all over the world. Greenwood is about 20 miles south of Indianapolis.

Well, all the TBN big wigs are coming to town for the big Super Bowl event! This is where me and my company come into play! They of course want their building to shine, as they will be doing a live local show with some of the football players.

I have stripped and waxed tile floors, cleaned baseboards, and scrubbed sinks and toilets! In the restrooms, I cleaned all the dividers/walls between the stalls using The Wonder Glove. It has proven once again to be a great cleaning tool! These dividers have never looked this good since they were new! I also used this tool coupled with carpet shampoo on several upholstered chairs. Their staff was amazed at how good the chairs looked, and that they were dry overnight. The Wonder Glove did a remarkable job on the glass, as well as spot cleaning paint spots on the carpet.

Thank goodness for The Wonder Glove! It certainly has made my job alot easier this past couple of weeks. Now..I'm going downtown!

The Scary Story of Dusting

One night I was in an office all by myself getting ready to do some dusting. Outside, the rain was falling as if to make up for all the days it hadn't rained; lightning, thunder, wind. When I turned on the lights, I saw all the dust just laying there like a sleeping giant. I started to think about dust and it's make up, and what could be done to rid us of it and it's scary mites. If it were a vampire I would only need a cross, a silver bullet, or some garlic. What is dust, and what is it made of?

Dust in an office would most likely be made up of paper particles, hair, dead skin cells, decomposing insect parts, pollen grains, bacteria, and the scariest thing I have never seen...The Dust Mite! And his fecal matter, of course! It isn't the dust mite itself that makes us sick, it's his poop! And the more stuff you have in your office, the more dust you have too. It's an unbeatable war. Where is my dust mask? I certainly don't want to breathe this in.

When dusting, I vacuum the surface first and then spray the area with a disinfectant cleaner. I let it soak for a few minutes and the wipe with a clean cloth. The hardest and most important thing to dust is the air vents and returns in the ceiling. I also vacuum these first, spray them down, let soak and wipe with a clean cloth. You should always put a drop cloth on the floor to catch the dust and whatever cleaner you are using.

The fact is that no matter how well you clean the office, it will never be dust free. There is nothing that can help me with keeping this dust and its scary creatures from falling on me. Wear all the protective gear you can find, but it will get on you somehow, somewhere, someway. And one wrong move and you may start the formation of...The Dust Bunny! Dust bunnies are the demons of dust. They are clumps of dust that form in hard to reach places. Unlike Frankenstein, they are held together by static electricity. They may be made of hair, lint, dead skin cells, spider webs. They are very friendly with the dust mites and other parasites. Sounds like a great witches brew! Dust bunnies are inhaled by your computer fan, causing a short life for them. So make sure to check your computer periodically. Are the dust bunnies choking your computer?

Woo went the wind, and out went the lights and all the little dust bunnies rolled out of sight... for the night anyway!

Dust bunnies have been used as an analogy for the occurrence of cosmic matter in Planetoids.

Three of my favorite cleaning devices

I have been working with one of the best cleaning devices other than the Wonder Glove, which is one of the best cleaning products available for stains on carpet, upholstery, interior and exterior of cars, and is the only product of it's type that absorbs and agitates, saving time and effort.

I have discovered another amazing product; a hand held steam cleaner. Shortly after using it I became very impressed with it's cleaning abilities. The one I use is a Eureka Big Shot. It sells for around $70 or so. With only 12oz of tap water, this steam cleaner will clean anything. The steam cleaner produces steam at a temperature of 212 degrees. Because of this temperature it is able to kill all microorganisms that the steam comes in contact with. So you're using only water to clean and disinfect whatever it is you're working on. When I first got my steam cleaner I started out in the bathroom. It worked great on my tubs, sinks, and toilets. The steam is able to clean and disinfect the smallest of areas, such as toilet hinges and screw holes where cleaning can be a burden. The steam cleaner also does wonders on mirrors and glass. The steam is able to penetrate the pores of the surface, allowing it to clean much better than other methods. The steam cleaner is also great for cleaning blinds, windows, and curtains. When cleaning my blinds, I didn't even have to take them down. The steam also dries very fast so there is no worry about too much moisture dripping or sitting around the item you are cleaning. And for those of us who aren't very good with an iron, the steam cleaner can get out wrinkles in shirts and pants without having to take them off the hanger. If you lived in a small apartment, a steam cleaner and water are the only cleaning products you would ever need to keep your apartment looking great.
Another good cleaning product is the Magic Eraser. The Magic Eraser is a melamine foam that has been used for over 20 years as insulation for pipes and ductwork, and has a long history as a soundproofing material for studios, sound stages, auditoriums, and the like. In the early 21st century it was discovered that melamine foam was an effective abrasive cleaner. The open cell foam is microporous and its polymeric substance is very hard, so that when used for cleaning it works like extremely fine sandpaper, getting into tiny grooves and pits in the object being cleaned. I was surprised when I first started using this product at how well it did on walls. The first time I used this product within my company, the walls looked almost freshly painted. This product can remove marker, crayon, grease, and just about anything else from painted walls, wood finishing, plastic tables, and many other surfaces. And if a little water is added to the Magic Eraser, it can remove some of the most uncleanable stains and marks. And always remember when cleaning walls to start at the bottom and work your way up!

Elbow Grease

A few days ago, I received a call from one of my employees. She was trying to get a spot out of the carpet on a job site. It was a new contract for my company, and she was really trying to get things looking good and in shape.I told her to get a Wonder Glove and Safe2Scrub cleaner, and to use some elbow grease. A few minutes went by, and my phone rang again. When I answered, it was the same employee telling me she couldn't find the elbow grease! After I stoped laughing, I told her what I meant by "elbow grease".The Wikipedia defines elbow grease as an idiom for working hard at manual labour, as in "You need to use some elbow grease". It is a humorous reflection of the fact that some tasks can only be achieved by hard effort and human energy, contrasting with the idea that there should be some special oil, tool or chemical product to make the job easier. The Wonder Glove saves you on elbow grease, as most good cleaning products do. They say your cleaning products should do most of the work, but some tough cleaning tasks do take a bit of "elbow grease"!

Cleaning a crime scene

The day I did a crime scene clean-up, I was working for the Greenwood Police Department doing the general cleaning of their building. It was a nice, hot, sunny day, and I was sitting by the pool enjoying it. Around 11 am the phone rang, and the caller ID said it was the police department. My first thought was, "Oh no, what are they going to complain about!". It was the Chief, and he asked if I had ever done a crime scene clean-up. I told him I hadn't but was interested.

He had a friend that was a police officer with Indianapolis Police Department, and his father had committed suicide in his home. The man shot himself in the head, so there was quite a mess to clean up. He asked me how soon I could be there so his friend didn't have to come home to all that horror and blood.

I said I could be there within the hour. So I jumped in the shower, got my bio hazard kit together, called a guy that worked for me to help, and we got there about 11:30 am. We parked in front of the house and there was a hearse in the driveway. They removed the body and gave us the go ahead to start the clean-up.

As I walked into the house, I noticed the ceramic floor tile the man had just installed for his son. It looked great. I thought to myself, alot of love and hard work had gone into that job.

I started on the floor. There was a large pool of blood that looked as if it had already coagulated. I took a large piece of plastic backed paper and soaked up the blood. I then sprayed the area with a germicidal cleaner, got out the Wonder Glove, and cleaned the table where he had been sitting. I noticed a receipt from Lowes where he had bought supplies for the tile job he had just finished.

The rest of the room wasn't that bad. The Wonder Glove did a great job on the table, walls, and chairs. This man had finished the tile job, and I guess he was just finished too. How could such a terrible thing happen on what started out to be a nice, hot, sunny day?

The many benefits of vinegar

John 19:29

A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus' lips.

Vinegar has been around forever, and like hydrogen peroxide, has many uses. Vinegar is an acid liquid. It is used in many foods, and has many medical uses.

As a professional in the cleaning industry, I use hydrogen peroxide for most tasks, I use vinegar mostly on wood, and on floors. I don't much care for the smell of vinegar! Kinda smells like dirty feet! But, it does have alot of cleaning benefits. We had a problem a while back with stains on a carpet that just kept coming back. I talked with the carpet manufacturer, and he told me to use 50% vinegar and 50% water on them. I was amazed! The carpet looked brand new!

Vinegar will also get rid of calcium deposits around sink fixtures. It truly is a wonderful environmentally friendly household product.

Hydrogen Peroxide-The Greatest Cleaning Agent Ever

I, much like the rest of the world, suffer from the occasional family member randomly stopping by to socialize for a bit. The past weekend it happened to be my cousin along with his pontoon boat, but socializing was not the reason. He informed me that he had a little bit of a problem with his boat. It had apparently gotten a bit dirty and knowing I'm in the business of cleaning, he wanted a little bit of advice. So I took a look at the boat and to say a bit dirty would be an extreme understatement. It was covered in what appeared to be black mold. I knew after seeing a mess such as this that there was only one cleaning agent strong enough to handle it-Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) Yes my friends the same thing mommy would put on our cuts and scraps when we were younger. The dirty little secret about hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is that it happens to be one of the most powerful oxidizers known to man. An added benefit of it is that hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is a naturally formed product caused by the action of sunlight on water. This natural product has many uses other than to disinfect our kids cuts and scraps. One of the best uses of it is for cleaning. Hydrogen peroxide kills bacteria, viruses, and to my cousins surprise even fungi. Substituting it with all those dangerous chemical cleaners not only keeps kids and pets safe when cleaning but as mentioned before it just so happens to work a whole lot better. One could even clean their windows by just adding about five drops of dish soap to hydrogen peroxide. Once you try it your be a believer. Not to mention hydrogen peroxide and dish soap happen to be much less expensive than your average window cleaner. In fact I informed my cousin to mix some dish soap with hydrogen peroxide, grab a wonder glove and scrub away at the boat. The next day he called to thank me because he has never seen his boat look so good since the day he bought it. Hydrogen Peroxide-you can't get a much more earth friendly product than that.
